My Bad Experience With Freelancer

I’m really frustrated with Freelancer right now, so I wanted to share what happened in case it helps someone else avoid the same mess.

I hired a developer who reviewed my project, accepted the job, and even gave me a quote. After that — nothing. No communication, no updates, no deliverables. I kept waiting thinking maybe he was working on it, but nothing ever came through.

Now that I opened a dispute, the freelancer is claiming the task was “impossible” even though he accepted the project and named his own price. If it was too hard, he should’ve said so before taking the job.

The worst part is the refund process. Instead of something simple like “no work delivered = automatic refund,” Freelancer puts you into this long, drawn-out negotiation process. I’m basically being forced to wait days just to get my own money back for a job where literally zero work was done.

So now I’m stuck in this dispute screen where I’ve asked for a full refund, and he’s asking for the entire payment even though he didn’t deliver anything at all. All I can do is wait for arbitration to open.

It’s honestly ridiculous that someone can take a job, do nothing, and then I have to fight for a refund. This has definitely made me rethink using Freelancer in the future.
